Strategies to Stop Brain Thinning at Any Age
Cognitive Rebalancing Among Many Approaches that May Help
![]() |
Brain thinning becomes more prominent as people age past 60 years. Brain thinning may be especially noticeable in certain regions that control memory, speech, problem-solving and nervous system connections. Signs of an aged brain may include sudden mood changes, loss of empathy toward others, trouble recalling words and difficulty learning new information. Age-related brain changes may be normal, but certain strategies make it possible to mitigate them.
According to the National Institute on Aging Alzheimer’s and related Dementias Education and Referral Center and Harvard Health, research has shown the following can help limit detrimental effects of brain thinning:
• Stay socially active
• Stay physically active
• Limit alcohol consumption
• Avoid high-sodium, high-fat, high-sugar and high-cholesterol foods
• Have a physician check current medications in case their side effects include cognitive difficulties
• Try learning new skills
• Get adequate sleep
These same strategies can also prevent or delay the effects of non-normal age-related cognitive decline, also known as dementia. Any age is the right age to apply these strategies, according to a 2020 Lancet report by Dr. Gill Livingston, M.D., and colleagues.
Cereset Clarkston also offers an innovative and noninvasive method to for cognitive rebalancing that may help the brain overcome emotional and physical changes associated with brain aging.
“Cereset has unique protocols designed to help support the areas of the brain that are most susceptible to thinning as the brain ages," explains Cereset Clarkston owner Carrie Weidenbach. "Cereset 'exercises’ these areas of the brain as one would exercise a weakened or atrophied limb. Our all-natural approach uses advanced sensors to detect brain frequencies and software to translate brain rhythms, which then echo as audio tones played back to the client, helping to relax the brain and support rebalancing. With support for these vulnerable regions of the brain, clients may notice various positive results such as improved memory and recall, better decision-making, better sleep, reduced brain fog and improved speech and communication."
Cereset Clarkston is located at 5649 Sashabaw Rd., Clarkston.
