Natural Awakenings News: Functional Medicine Practitioner Celebrates 2 Years at Institute
Mary Wilson

Trained at Cleveland Clinic’s Center for Functional Medicine and certified in functional medicine by the Institute for Functional Medicine, Mary E. Miller-Wilson, adult nurse practitioner, begins her second year working alongside Dr. Hardik Shah, doctor of osteopathic and neuromusculoskeletal medicine, at Institute of Neuromuscular Medicine (INMMED). Functional medicine uses natural treatments for conditions such as chronic fatigue syndrome, fibromyalgia, autoimmune and genetic disorders, digestive illnesses and degenerative neurologic diseases as well as hormone replacement therapy in men and women.

“Mary continues to share her valuable knowledge and experience gleaned from seeing the country’s most challenging cases during her three-year training at the renowned Cleveland Clinic,” Shah states. “She worked directly with Dr. Mark Hyman, who has dedicated his career to the whole-systems approach known as functional medicine.”

“Over the last 10 years, my approach to health has always been based on a melding of functional medicine and anti-aging medicine, looking for the underlying root cause of disease and assisting patients in being proactive about their health,” Miller-Wilson says. “My understanding of functional medicine as unique and personalized allows me to assess all aspects of a patient’s lifestyle: genetics, environment, emotions, beliefs and social relationships, all of which directly influence health and disease. I am honored not only to have this opportunity to practice as the functional medicine provider for but also feel extremely blessed to be able to offer these valuable services at INMMED. With my experience and skills, I am eager to help as many patients as possible.”

Institute of Neuromuscular Medicine is located at 4300 Marseilles Street, Detroit. For more information or to schedule an appointment, call 313-290-2250 or visit
